I noticed a small article in the paper that announced that 2 chicks had been born to the golden eagles in Glenveagh Donegal.
This is the first time in over a hundred years that wild golden eagles have hatched chicks in Ireland.
How great is that ?
Hi Guys

Unfortunatly 1 of the chicks has died. Hopefully the other will survive. The next 6/7 weeks will be crucial.
I was trying to get some updated info on the Golden Eagles in Donegal and I discovered that believing what you read in the papers can be dangerous.

According to the Golden Eagle Trust

A pair of Golden Eagles has hatched 2 young chicks in Glenveagh National Park, County Donegal. This is the same pair that reared a chick in 2007, but they failed to breed in 2008. The chicks are still quite young and it is hoped that they may fledge in late July.

Golden Eagles have bred every year in Donegal since 2005, but only one chick has fledged in this time.

So it hasn't been the first time in over 100 years.

Also

'The weaker chick was removed under an NPWS licence and examined before it was placed in the care of an expert falconer.'

It is hoped to return the second chick to the Glenveagh nest very shortly as its feathers have begun to emerge through its white down in recent days.

I am inclined to believe the report from the Golden Eagle Trust but if anyone can confirm the situation in Donegal I would be very grateful.
Update on the Golden Eagles.

Looks good for the chicks
