Red-footed falcons being seen in Ireland.... Excellent!!
This May there have been three males and a female seen in Wexford and in Kildare a lone female was spotted.
These falcons are very like hobbies in that they feed on insects taken on the wing. But the sexes are very different, The female looks almost kestrel like while the male is totally different in colouring and is a beautiful slate black colour.
The first time I saw a pair in captivity in the UK I really wanted them but funds were far too low.......... as usual!
Maybe someday circumstances will change and I can get a breeding pair to show the public.
